Family Digital Safety Checklist

A simple checkup for the accounts, devices and habits that help protect your family online.

☐ Important accounts (email, banking, shopping) each have their own unique password.

☐ A password manager is in use.

☐ Multi-factor authentication is turned on for email, banking and other important accounts.

☐ Recovery phone numbers and email addresses on important accounts are checked and current.

☐ Phones and computers are set to update automatically.

☐ Built-in security protection on each computer and phone is checked and turned on.

☐ Credit freezes at all three bureaus have been considered or completed.

☐ A family safe word is set up for suspicious emergency calls.

☐ Family members know not to trust caller ID alone.

☐ Suspicious messages are verified using contact information you find yourself, not the details in the message.

☐ Backups are turned on for important photos and documents.

☐ Everyone knows the official places to report and recover: IdentityTheft.gov, ReportFraud.ftc.gov and IC3.gov.

Stop. Verify independently. Then act.
